LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Parents of "Alvin and the Chipmunks" fans may soon be heading to Walmart to snatch up items from the retailer's exclusive children's line from Fox Consumer Products. The launch of the collection coincided with the Blu-ray and DVD release of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" in Walmart stores on March 27.
The spring collection is now available in 3000 Walmart stores and is merchandised along with the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the movie. In addition ten high-profile Walmart stores in Chino, Calif., Pico Rivera, Calif., Honolulu, Hawaii, Ammon, Idaho, Springfield, Utah, Vernal Utah, Killeen, Texas, Rogers, Ark., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Clinton, Mad., have an additional oversized dynamic wave display containing a special backdrop allowing families to take photos they can send virally to their friends and loved ones. Items in the apparel collection include t-shirts, intimates and swimwear.
The campaign will be supported online with a special boutique page and on the brand's current Facebook page, which boasts more than 2.5 million "likes."
