Gooch has left The Shack

FORT WORTH, Texas — James Gooch stepped down from his position as CEO and board member at RadioShack.

Gooch’s departure was disclosed early Wednesday. The company said CFO Dorvin Lively would assume CEO responsibilities on an interim basis. Lively joined the company a little over a year ago after previously serving as CFO of Ace Hardware for two years.

Gooch was named president of RadioShack in January 2011 after serving as the company’s CFO since 2006. He was named CEO in May 2011. Prior to joining RadioShack Gooch spent 10 years with Kmart Holdings and subsequently Sears Holdings.

The board of directors of RadioShack is in the process of retaining an executive search firm to assist in conducting a search for a successor and does not intend to place any limitations on the search, which may include internal candidates, the company said in a statement.

"We thank Jim for his service to the company and wish him well in his future endeavors," said Daniel R. Feehan, RadioShack’s nonexecutive chairman of the board.

"I would like to thank my colleagues on the board and everyone at the company for their strong support," Gooch said. "I wish them all great success in the future."

RadioShack bills itself as a leading national retailer of innovative mobile technology products and services as well as products related to personal and home technology and power supply needs. The company operates approximately 4,700 company-owned stores in the United States and Mexico, 1,500 wireless phone centers in the U.S. and 1,100 dealer and other outlets worldwide.
