The University of Arkansas RFID Research Center will finally receive a home of its own. The center, which was founded in 2005 as part of the Information Technology Research Institute in The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas will be housed at 1637 Fred Hanna Drive in Fayetteville. This will be the third location for the research center since it was founded.

One of the more interesting developments in the retail industry is set to unfold in a series of small towns along the Western edge of Arkansas where Walmart is set open the first of its experimental small formats.

First up is a 35,000-sq.-ft. Walmart Market store along the western edge of Fayetteville that is scheduled to open next week. Walmart Market is the new name for the concept previously known as Neighborhood Market so this store isn’t likely to be revolutionary in its design or product assortment, although it is about 10,000 sq. ft. smaller than the typical Neighborhood Market Walmart opened during the past decade.

A first of its kind conference focused on shopper behavior is scheduled for May 12 in Fayetteville, Ark., home of the Center for Retailing Excellence within the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. The conference is called SHOP and features a number of thought leaders in the field of consumer research and shopper insights and was designed to complement the Center’s Emerging Trends in Retailing Conference that is held each fall.
