Deloitte reported that its Consumer Spending Index rose sharply in October, primarily due to the significant increase in new home prices.
The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index to 3.53 in September from a reading of 3.27 the previous month, primarily due to a nearly 11% increase in home prices, which offset weakness in other areas of the index.
After three consecutive months of improvement, the Consumer Reports Index for March slipped to 46.1, from 49.6 last month.
