Groupon Freebies now in consumers’ pockets

With coupons for anywhere from J.C. Penney to Jos. A. Bank, instant savings are now in people’s pockets with the addition of Groupon Freebies to the coupon giant’s mobile app.

The feature, which was launched late in 2013 on Groupon’s website, was added to its mobile app on Tuesday. With Freebies now available to deal seekers on the go, some 30,000 coupons, discount codes and other deals that it features will be at customers’ fingertips.

“By adding Freebies to our popular mobile app, we’re giving shoppers more ways to save money on the go without having to clip any coupons,” said Sean Smyth, VP/GM, Freebies. “And, with more than 80 million downloads globally, we’re giving brands an enormous platform to drive customers to their mobile app, online store or physical location.”

Though only U.S. users will be able to use Freebies for now, by the end of this year, the company plans to expand internationally.

For now, some offers open to consumers to celebrate Freebies’ first day in people’s pockets include a 20% discount for in-store purchases at Aeropostale and $25 off an Uber ride for newcomers to the cab hailing app.
