UPS enhances e-commerce capabilities

Major expansions at several U.S. distribution facilities in California and Kentucky increase UPS’ distribution capacity by roughly 460,000 square feet.

The largest expansion came at the UPS facility in the southern California town of Mira Loma near the Los Angeles Ontario Airport. The regional air hub gained 309,000 square feet of space to enhance its ability to allow retail and manufacturing customers to move shipment originating from Asia throughout the U.S. due to its proximity to transcontinental rail connection and major highways.

Another major expansion was made to the UPS facility located in Hebron, KY. The Cincinnati area facility gained 151,000 square feet of space to enhance service to retail customers. The strategic location within 600 miles of 30 major metropolitan areas enables UPS to serve more than 60% of the U.S. population within two days via ground or freight service.

“These expansions are part of UPS’s continued commitment to meet the needs of our customers,” said Stephen Hydrick, UPS vp of North American distribution. “As they launch new products and experience seasonal spikes in volume, they must have the flexibility to scale up and down. These investments give customers that flexibility, and it’s vital to their success.”

A smaller expansion was made to the UPS facility in Calgary, Canada where 18,000 square feet of space was added to a health care distribution facility.
In total, investments at the three facilities added nearly 478,000 square feet of space to an existing global supply chain solutions network included includes 528 facilities and encompasses nearly 31 million square feet.
