Target created A Bullseye View a little more than two years ago as an innovative digital platform to achieve a deeper level of engagement with those who have an interest in all things Target. Billed as a behind-the-scenes magazine, A Bullseye View was recently relaunched to incorporate new features and functionality to build upon its original mission. The corporate and social public relations team responsible for the initiative is led by Eric Hausman, who spoke recently with Target Supplier News about what’s different, why content rules and the role of brands in the publishing space.

A short video on the Bullseye View section of Target’s Web site feature new chief marketing officer Jeffrey Jones sharing his views on leadership, social media, partnership and what makes a successful CMO. The video is only one minute and 49 seconds long, but it is worth a gander and is also noteworthy from a communications standpoint as it is a great way for a company to expose a highly anticipated new hire to the marketplace, investors and its own employees. Today promises to be a special one for 25 Toronto area residents -- assuming their definition of special involves waiting in line for the opportunity to purchase up to three Jason Wu products at a Target pop-up store in Toronto and have their photo taken with the designer and Target’s mascot dog Bullseye.

Few vehicles on the NASCAR circuit look as good or are as identifiable on the track as the No. 42 Target Chevrolet with its red-and-white color scheme and distinctive Bullseye logo adorning the hood. Unfortunately for Target, style doesn’t count for anything in auto racing and driver Juan Pablo Montoya failed to win a race this year.

Talk about favorable media coverage. CNBC aired a one-hour special last week called “Target: Inside the Bullseye,” that served as more of a glowing endorsement of the company than the probing documentary implied by the title.

During the show, which aired on Jan. 13 and 15, there was no mention of the percentage of products the company imports from China, the wages it pays store employees or its opposition to unions.

The fourth installment of family movie night, a collaboration between Walmart and Procter & Gamble, is set to air Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox. The movie is called Change of Plans, and the plot line revolves around how lives can be turned upside down with a phone call. Also of interest is an upcoming CNBC special on Target, but more on that later.

This should be interesting. “Target: Inside the Bullseye” is scheduled to air on CNBC Thursday, Jan. 13 at 9 p.m. EST. The documentary will repeat that evening at 10 p.m., 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. and will also re-air again on Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
